My dentist referred me to a periodontist because I have a gum infection. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and she said it might be related. Why would that be?
It is very interesting that studies have shown there really is a direct link between diabetes and gum disease. Diabetics have a harder time fighting any infection, gum infection included. Also, any infection causes blood sugar to rise causing diabetes harder to manage. It’s important to have great oral health because this ultimately leads to better overall health of the body.
