I heard sweet potatoes help relieve tooth pain. Is this true? Why?
This is such an interesting question! I searched some home remedy/homeopathic sites and sweet potatoes are listed as a home or DIY toothache remedy.
Sweet potatoes have the nutrient choline in them which keeps inflammation at bay. Eating them can keep nerve inflammation down and help lessen toothaches. One homeopathic site also mentioned cutting off a piece of sweet potato and putting on your sore tooth for about 15 minutes. This is, of course, until you can get to see a dentist.
I also read that toothaches seem to get worse at night because you are lying down. Sleeping with your head elevated may help with pressure and pain.
One other home remedy mentioned was pressing a hot tea bag directly onto the tooth for pain relief.
That is some good info--thanks! Does anyone else have any DIY home remedies they would recommend?
